Drainage & Flooding: Two Sides of the Same Coin

This year, our neighborhood experienced four major rain events that caused street flooding we aren’t used to seeing. In response, the Tara Civic Association contacted the city to inspect the street drains and drainage paths in our hardest-hit areas. However, during this investigation, we found instances of yard and pool drainage being improperly directed into servitudes, along with permanent structures built along property lines without city permits or ACC approval.

This situation highlights exactly why our ACC process is so critical. Often, residents don't realize the unintended impact their property changes can have on the people living around them. In fact, during this recent flooding, unapproved property modifications unfortunately contributed to water entering a neighbor's home. Bypassing the approval process can easily lead to expensive forced fixes for another homeowner, as well as civil legal action between neighbors.

We are fully committed to keeping Tara beautiful, safe, and dry. In our recent General Membership Meeting video, we began discussing practical steps you can take to improve drainage on your own lot.
